Curcumin A Possible Alzheimer’s Disease Treament March 18, 2008
Posted by Serious in : Alzheimer's Disease , add a commentIn a 2007 study by Garcia-Alozza M and colleagues published in the August issue of the J of Neurochemistry. The authors stated “Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by senile plaques and neurodegeneration although the neurotoxic mechanisms have not been completely elucidated. It is clear that both oxidative stress and inflammation play an important role in the illness. The compound curcumin, with a broad spectrum of anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrilogenic activities may represent a promising approach for preventing or treating AD. Their study was done using special mice and their conclusion was that the data suggests that curcumin reverses existing amyloid pathology and associated neurotoxicity in a mouse model of AD. One of the main ingredients in the new supplement for pain & inflammation is curcumin. Thus, individuals using NMS Neuromuscular Support also receive benefits related to the brain.
Can Antioxidants Help Alzheimer’s Disease? March 18, 2008
Posted by Serious in : Alzheimer's Disease , add a commentA recent study evaluated Vitamin C and Quercetin on their ability to decrease neurodegenerative diseases. “Quercetin, on of the major flavonoids in some fruits and vegetables, has a much stronger antioxidative and anticarcinogenic activities than vitamin C.”(Heo HJ, Lee CY 2004) The authors concluded: “These results suggest that quercetin in addition to many other biological benefits, contributes significantly to the protective effects of neuronal cells from oxidative stress-induced neurotoxicity, such as Alzheimer disease. It would thus appear that individuals taking NMS Neuromuscular Support for pain and inflammation are reaping an additional benefit of added protection against neurodegenearation.

It may exert its anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of a number of different molecules that play a role in inflammation.” (The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine Vol. 9 Number 1, 2003, pp. 161-168
