The older we get the more prone we are to have exercise pain and muscle strain as a part of our daily routine. Stretching prior to exercising is extremely important to reduce the pain and strain of exercising cold muscles. Most people find it difficult to stick with a program that is too aggressive. Therefore, if you can’t walk 5 times a week do whatever you can on a consistent basis. If you find that 10 minute walks 2 or 3 times a day are much easier than a sustained 30 minute session, then do that. Don’t let the thought of pain or muscle strain keep you from your program. At the very least you are going to wind up with the occasional muscle strain because you got a little too happy on the ball field or because your cycling buddy challenged you to a race, and you’re not 19 anymore. At the more extreme end, you may even wind up with muscle bruises, which you can get from being pounced on by football players, falling from a horse, and all kinds of other ways. Don’t worry.
